Almost Time

With school less than 24 hours away from starting, the place is abuzz with activity. Here are a few things I wish I could tell everyone:

1. Please be patient, especially in and around our parking lots and drop-off/pick-up zones.

2. Be engaged. I know we send quite a bit through the mail and we will try to reduce that amount by using the website as a primary means of communication, but that means people have to check the website regularly. Please attend your student's events: athletics, concerts plays. No matter what they may say about "It's no big deal," your presence in their life is much more significant than ours.

3. Pray for your students, their teachers and our school.

On a different note, I have prepared for the Board of Directors an annual report built around a powerpoint presentation which you can view below. Of course, you'll miss my pithy commentary, but if you have any questions I would be happy to answer them. If you are checking this immediately, you'll see it even before the Board of Director's. Is that legal?

Best line of the year in the PP presentation. "Depopulate Hell"

I really enjoyed the slideshow. Thank you for sharing it with us. I too love the "Depopulate Hell" line, at first it made me chuckle, and yet a moment later I took notice that those two words put together mean a whole lot!

Just a quick question on slide page 16 it was a calendar with a suduko of sorts,(yes, I admit I did sit there for a while trying to figure it out) what does it mean?

I also took notice to the slide that shows the almost double of tuition in the last decade and thought oh oh by the time my third grader is ready for 6th and continues through to 12th it will be double.

This seems like it would be a really good round table topic with all the creative and entrepreneurial minds floating around Faith. Just a jam session of thoughts and ideas, could be held quaterly. I'm sure with Gods help he'll show us the way!

Wishing You Mr. Dunning and FAITH the best year ever!

regarding board report:

misleading that you list the MS construction first, when the intention seems to be to focus on more athletic construction first.

Some comments on the comments....
Giving credit where it is due, the "depopulate hell" line comes from our new HS principal Dr. Buuck.

Slide 16 is a chart showing Advanced Placement scores for the last several years. While the number of students taking the tests has significantly increased (not unexpected given our increased enrollment)what is more noteworthy is the steady improvement in results. The % of students receiving a passing score (3-5)has improved markedly over the last few years, a sign that our students are better prepared than earlier.

What I said to the Board was that we have had substantial tuition increases over the last decade, which was accompanied by substantial facility improvements. I doubt that similar rates of increase are sustainable over the next decade. It is a challenge we will need to look at.

And on the timetable for construction of a middle school, the absence of commentary in the slideshow leads to the confusion. What was said at the Boad meeting was that in 32 months the school needs to find a permanent solution to the "bridge loan" financing for CPAC. That may be the appropriate time for the school to wrap it's current indebtedness into a new bond that would include financing for the middle school building. In the meantime, KGA (our architects)has some ideas to address some immediate problems: parking and athletic practice space. Given the state of the economy, no decisions about what direction future construction might take have been made.
